ORIGINAL BASILOSAURUS TOOTH FOSSIL MOROCCO À LYON
Eocene (Priabonian) (38 - 33.9 mil y) - El Argoub, Western Sahara, Morocco This is a wonderful rare tooth of Basilosaurus, one of the first genera of whales. Basilosaurus was at its time the largest animal on Earth. It could be 15 to 18 metres long and weighed about 60 tons. These teeth are found in a hard sand layer and are usually broken in the layer. This tooth was also broken in the layer too and was stabilized directly after the find and treated with a preservative. Where the tooth was broken there is a small restoration. This tooth measures no less than 11 cm long and 2,4 cm wide. Wonderful tooth and an asset to any collection. The photos speak for themselves.
