Prix neuf 2499,00 lancé a 4200 ASTELL-KERN AK380  un baladeur hifi haute résolution "extravagant" dirait-on ! Non,  ce n'est pas une évolution de l'AK240 c'est un reengineering conçu à l'adresse des professionnels du son. L'AK380 est le baladeur haut de gamme de tous les superlatifs. Dés les premières écoutes comparatives, on remarque les différences de rendu acoustique, résultat du travail du dac AKM et du profond reengineering. On parle bien d'un autre appareil différent d'un AK240. Comme tous les baladeurs ASTELL-KERN l'AK380 est un trois en un: 1 Baladeur Hifi Haute-résolution(Hi-Res), 2 Convertisseur Dac portable ou non, 3 Serveur de musiques jusqu'à 384G portable ou non. Tout d'abord les photos ne lui rendent pas hommage, sa forme est quasiment rectangulaire et non si "tourmentée" comme les photos voudraient nous le faire croire. Ensuite son écran nettement plus large (Diagonale 4 inch= 10,16cm WVGA) q ue l'AK240 (3.31 inch= 8,41cm WVGA), impressionne et ainsi facilite grandement la navigation. Enfin, dès la première écoute comparée AK380-AK240 (AK380 que nous sommes les seuls à avoir en France depuis le 9 juillet 2015), l'AK380 est au dessus de tous: image sonore plus large, plus profonde, plus détaillée, plus riche... Il nous semblait impossible d'aller plus haut et plus loin quand on a reçu l'AK240 la première fois, et pourtant l'AK380 pulvérise toutes nos idées. L'arme fatale de l'AK380, ce nouveau jouet hifi extravagant d'Astell-Kern: son DAC ! Un double AKM AK4490 qui ne permet pas seulement une meilleure résolution des fichiers en PCM  (32bit-384KHz), mais offre aussi un "vrai montage en Dual mono" pour une bien meilleure séparation des canaux droite-gauche, une plus large image stéréophonique, et de meilleures dynamiques. Coté performance: nous confirmons la différence entre les DAC: ainsi les deux Dac Cirrus Logic 4398 (de l'AK240) apparaissent  "en -dessous" des performances des deux Dac AKM AK4490 de l'AK380. Inutile de dire que dans sa fonction convertisseur DAC, portable ou non, AK380 déstabilise ce qui se fait de mieux sur le marché dans les mêmes catégories de prix.
