ROLAND U-110 Midi PCM Sound Expander Vintage 80´s Sound  The U-110 is a basic rack-mount sound module consisting of acoustic-oriented PCM samples with preset settings, limited flexibility, and boring late eighties sounds. It's nothing to get excited about. It has 2MB of ROM-based sampled sounds, none of which sound great. The U-110 is fairly noisy as well. Its palette of sounds could be grossly expanded with up to four expansion cards, but good luck finding those today! The U-110's biggest distinction, really, is that it was Roland's first totally digital sample-based synth. At the time, that was a break-through - look at all the realistic sounds you get in a single rack space MIDI module! Nowadays, it's hard to wonder why anybody would want one of these. The U-110 was available in a prototype form as the T-110. But the U-110 was soon replaced by the U-20 keyboard and U-220 module. Astral Projection used a U-110 before they switched to the U-220. A classic synth, which thanks also to the large number of extra sounds available on Roland  expansion boards, delivers amazing power and variety.  The U-series uses a type of synthesis called RS-PCM - which stands for ReSynthesized Pulse Code Modulation, and it's Roland's 2nd generation sampling technique. It is based on high-quality samples. The structure of this synth reminds of the D-50 and its tones, partials and patches. Here we have 128 basic components called "tones", that can be used to build "timbres". Timbres can then be combined in various ways to build "patches". This is a fairly elaborate process which seems daunting at the beginning, but fairly easy once you are used to the way the U-220's OS works. Besides instrument waveforms/tones, the U-220 also features drum samples. They are fairly punchy and typically with an 80s feel. You can certainly use these percussion tones to form patches - indeed, some of the more creative factory patches use drum sounds as starting points. One drawback of the U-series is that there are no filters. The editing options are few and limited to choosing tone, setting level, pitch, vibrato, and effects parameters - so clearly the U-series is not the best option if you want a full-fledged synthesizer that you can edit to the max. This is definitely a plug 'n' play, performance synth: this module responds beautifully to velocity messages, and also the aftertouch is incredibly responsive and guarantees "felt" performances. It's also 6+1 (for rhythm) polytimbric, so you can use it to compose full songs. The U-series can also be expanded thanks to two slots for the SN-U110-series of PCM cards, which really open up all kinds of possibilities for this machine. It's also interesting to note that - from what I can hear - many of the waveforms in the U-series ROM ended up in the hugely successful Sound Canvas series - which largely contributed to the success of the GM (General MIDI) standard in the early 90s. Technics SH-GE90 DSP - Equalizer - Digital Sound Processor. Hi, I'm selling this Technics DSP because I have no use for it anymore. It's a Technics SH-GE90 Digital Sound Processor. The unit has some scratches due to usage and storage, especially on the plastic parts. There's some paint missing at the back of the unit (see pictures). The DSP display flickers slightly. This is a typical fault of this unit, which can easily be remedied by replacing a dry capacitor. You can find information about this in the net. The audio functions are not affected by this. I'm not good at soldering, I don't want to damage it by trying to repair it. It has never been serviced. The unit is sold with a power cord. I'll send the unit using the UPS standard service, sorry for the high shipping cost. I never had any issues shipping fragile items with them and I don't want the unit damaged because I've used another service. The unit will be well protected and all moving parts will be secured. The shipping costs takes into account the packaging itself I have to provide and the fact that I have to drive 60km, round trip, to go to the nearest UPS Access Point. So that's why the shipping cost is a bit higher than you should expect (I added approx 5€ for packaging and fuel). Sorry non-European buyers, the shipping cost is too high for non-European countries (almost 120€ !) and I don't want to take the risk to send the unit that far, I'm sorry. I'm hesitating to sell this one but since I need funds I'm not closed to a good price of sell. It's an extraordinary instrument, warmest pickups I ever played. It has the level of fullerton pickups, same era. With a distortion pedal and a marshall amp it really a wall of sound you receive in the face. It's just huge. Woody and powerfull. If you hate your neightbours you can send them to hell with that. The neck has oranged with time, everything is in perfect state, no noticeable marks on the guitar. Maybe the frets, they're a bit used but nothing special about it, I'd say 8 over 10. Guitar is light, resonant. I have it in my heart, I won't sell it for a lower price. A soft case will be included. I think I sell it only because I know there are ST80s around.
