HAND-TURNED YEW WOOD TWIG VASE BY TOM THUMB DESIGNS À LAUNAC

Yew branch wood was used for this hand-turned Twig Vase – saving it from the bonfire or chipper! Only a thin branch is needed to make a Twig Vase, and in some species, such as Yew or Laburnum, this means that you get the beautiful effect of the outer sap wood contrasting with the inner heart wood. I seasoned the branch for several years, then turned the Twig Vase on a lathe, and finished it with a sanding sealer and a wax polish, which really highlights the grain and figure in the wood. The Twig Vase cannot have water in it, but it is perfect as a decorative item on its own, or for displaying some wild grasses or twigs. The hole in the Vase is 16mm diameter. This simply shaped Twig Vase shows off the colours in the Yew superbly. It is very tactile, and just has to be picked up! Height 192mm, base diameter 62mm.
