Explication de la technique (en anglais) / Technique's explanation: "Hand made CLOISONNE WARE. Cloisonne originated in Central Asia but was refined and improved upon in China. The intricate technique begins with each line of the design being formed of a ribbon copper wire; creating 'cloisons' or cells. The wires are then fused to the copper base. The enamel, ground to a powder and moistened with water, is then laid into the cells and fired in a kiln at 1400ºF. This process of filling is repeated, layer after layer, to achieve a depth of color and shading. Finally the piece is hand ground to a smooth surface and then polished and plated."
