The amplifier stage has been modified in order to achieve superlative performance. Tested with a professional dScope audio analyzer, the modded player measures 0.00079% (-102dB) distortions under a 16ohm load and at a 500mV output! This is pretty much state of the art in professional audio territory, let alone for a portable device. For reference, under same conditions original schematic achieves 0.022% (-73dB), which is pretty good already but much below what the DAC chips can support and what can be squeezed out of this gem. Note that the power consumption increased by around 10-15% following the mod. Rockbox open-source alternative firmware has been installed (parametric EQ, dithering, gapless playback etc.). The player can be booted either with the original firmware or with Rockbox, should you prefer to use only the original firmware send me a note and will reset the player to factory defaults before shipping.
