Le disque est absolument parfait, comme neuf. Il n’est juste plus sous son emballage d’origine. NM Near Mint La pochette est presque parfaite, pouvant comporter de très minimes signes d’usure. Par contre le dessin artistique ou la photo de la pochette doit être aussi impeccable que possible. Le disque est presque parfait. De très légères marques lumineuses peuvent être constatées sur la surface du disque, mais cela doit être vraiment minime. Il ne doit y avoir aucun effet sur la qualité sonore du disque. Si c’est le cas, même minime, il ne pourra plus être considéré comme NM ou M-. EX Excellent La pochette peut avoir quelques très discrètes rayures et/ou des petits plis. Le disque montre des signes d’avoir été joué (sensibles marques lumineuses), mais la perte de qualité sonore est pratiquement inaudible. VG+ Very Good + La pochette présente des signes de manipulations évidents: extrémité légèrement cornée, étiquette du prix, plis. Mais aucun défaut majeur. Il se peut aussi qu’elle soit en parfait état mais présente un poinçon ou une extrémité biseautée. C’est l’état le plus courant des disques de deuxième main. Les disques ont quelques rayures qui n’affectent pas la qualité sonore. Certains crépitements peuvent être audibles sur des platines très sensibles. VG Very Good La pochette est usée avec des plis, des marques, des décollements, une usure des bords, des décolorations, un début de marque circulaire du disque sur la pochette. Les signes de l’âge sont présents. Le disque a des rayures et marques qui affectent la qualité sonore. Il peut y avoir des craquements et également des petits sauts si le disque est légèrement gondolé. G Good Pochette et sous pochette présentant de nombreux défauts dus au temps et à l'usure, notamment sur la tranche et les côtés. Elles peuvent être maintenues par du ruban adhésif ou recouvertes par des autocollants. Les rayures en surface sont bien visibles. B Bad La pochette est très abîmée avec des déchirures, des traces et marques d’usure un peu partout. Des éléments de la pochette peuvent être également manquants. Le vinyle n’est plus jouable correctement à cause des trop nombreuses rayures et défauts de surface. Le disque peut être cassé, dans ce cas il mérite sa place dans un listing uniquement s’il est très rare.

After studying the cello and the trombone at the Paris Conservatoire National Supérieur de Musique he went on to play in a number of Big Bands. In the 1960s he accompanied Marlene Dietrich, Nat King Cole, Sammy Davis and Charles Aznavour, and in 1970 added the tuba, working as a studio musician and recording with Michel Legrand, Vladimir Cosma, Michel Colombier and others. From 1973 to 1983 he accompanied Claude Nougaro with Eddie Louiss and Maurice Vander, and played in the orchestras of Martial Solal, Michel Portal and others.  In 1981 he formed his own group, the "Steckar Tubapack", and his first recording in 1982 won the Prix Boris Vian, awarded by the Académie de Jazz. Marc Steckar has recorded over twenty discs using the tuba and in 1990 he started to mix the tuba with other ensembles, big bands, brass bands, wind bands, and choirs. In 1994 he composed several concertos for tuba, euphoniums and trombones and in 1999 received the Sacem Prix Printemps. Generally, in the sense that Retrouvailles evinces, from beginning to end, that paradoxical mixture of solidarity in the pursuit of a collective goal, together with competitive individual excellence that makes jazz great. There is unstinting excellence and unflagging attention to detail; all the while knowing that no one is likely to get rich from this record, or this music, even though they really should. Specifically, because like many listeners of my advanced age, I fell in love with the music via a sound similar to Art Blakey and the Jazz Messengers—those little big bands (or are they large small ensembles?)— that mix genuine funk with elegant sophistication, delivered by exquisitely arranged multi-horn line-ups. De Preissac clearly draws on this inspiration as well. The expertly navigated changes in meter and tempo are right out of the Wayne Shorter-era Jazz Messengers. The always subtly surprising tonal colors in de Preissac's arrangements recall the arranging work of his compatriot, flautist Christophe dal Sasso's Exploration (Nocturne, 2006). There are further parallels. Drummer Andréa Michelutti, like Blakey, favors the booming lower range of his kit. De Preissac, for his part, calls to mind some of the best qualities of the playing of various Jazz Messengers pianists (Horace Silver, Bobby Timmons, Cedar Walton, Mulgrew Miller): a round, gospel-tinged sound, a slight florid tendency to the baroque, all the better to be heard over and between the large-ish ensemble. In de Preissac's case, these characteristics are overlaid with classical elements as well (as on his solo on "Minor's Mood"). As a brief cross-section of the players' strengths, listen to the sequence of short solos on "Jungleblues," which sounds for all the world like a Jazz Messengers show closer. Tenor saxophonist Jean-Christophe Béney is firmly in the tradition (though elsewhere on the record he favors ever so slightly "out" sonorities) and equally in control. As does trumpeter and composer Fabien Mary, who insistently splits the beats of his solos. For a bit of contrast, Michaël Chéret, on alto sax, heads for more angular territory, Eric Dolphy style, only to be followed by trombonist Mickaël Joussein's very cool sound on top of the rhythm. The leader takes a crystalline turn, followed by an arco episode from bassist Manuel Marchès and a brief trading of fours with drummer Michelutti. And that's not even the record's finest number.
