Avant meme de debuter l'ecole, il jouait deja du piano, maitrisait l'improvisation et, a 9 ans, il composa des chants complets, sans avoir recu aucune instruction musicale. Il etudia les mathematiques et la physique a l'Universite de Geneve pendant deux ans, tout en travaillant a la composition et en etudiant le piano avec Joseph Lauber (1864-1952). De 1918 a 1926, il vecut a Zurich, a Rome et a Paris. En 1926, il fonda la Societe de Musique de Chambre de Geneve, qu'il dirigea en tant que pianiste et claveciniste pendant 10 ans; durant cette periode, il enseigna aussi la theorie musicale et l'improvisation a l'institut Jaques-Dalcroze, et la musique de chambre au Conservatoire de Geneve. Pour trouver plus de temps pour ses compositions qu'il ne le pouvait en Suisse, il partit aux Pays-Bas en 1946, s'installa finalement a Naarden, mais, de 1950 a 1957, il enseigna neanmoins la composition au Staatliche Hochschule fur Musik a Cologne (Allemagne). Par la suite, il renonca completement a l'enseignement, et se concentra exclusivement sur ses compositions. Il est mort en 1974 a Naarden. Parmi les oeuvres majeures de Martin, on peut noter huit Preludes pour piano, « Quatre pieces breves » pour guitare, deux Sonates pour violon et piano, le « Trio sur des melodies populaires irlandaises » pour piano, violon et violoncelle, un Quatuor a cordes, la « Pavane couleur du temps » pour deux violons, alto et deux violoncelles, les « Six monologues de Jedermann », un Concerto pur sept instruments a vent, timpani, percussion et orchestre a cordes, « Polyptique » pour violon et deux petits orchestres de chambre, une Ballade pour saxophone, cordes, piano et percussion, deux Concertos pour piano, un Concerto pour violon, un Concerto pour violoncelle, une « Petite symphonie concertante », les Etudes symphoniques « Les quatre elements », une Symphonie, « Les Dithyrambes » pour soli, choeur et orchestre, l'Oratorio profane « Le vin herbe », les Oratorios « In Terra Pax » et « Golgotha », une Messe pour double choeur, un Requiem, ou bien encore « Der Cornet », cycle de Melodies d'apres Rainer Maria Rilke. Parisien d'adoption, Arthur Honegger est un compositeur suisse, ne au Havre en 1892 et mort a Paris en 1955. En 1911, deux ans apres s'etre inscrit au Conservatoire de Zurich, Honegger le quitte pour le Conservatoire de Paris, ou il est eleve de Charles-Marie Widor (1844-1937) et de Vincent d'Indy (1851-1931). Compositeur desireux d'illustrer la transformation, notamment par la technique et le sport, de la societe, Honegger ecrit pour le theatre, la radio et le cinema aussi bien que pour la salle de concert. Il est l'un des membres du « Groupe des Six », avec Louis Durey (1888-1979), Germaine Tailleferre (1892-1983), Darius Milhaud (1892-1974), Francis Poulenc (1899-1963) et Georges Auric (1899-1983). In the 1960s he accompanied Marlene Dietrich, Nat King Cole, Sammy Davis and Charles Aznavour, and in 1970 added the tuba, working as a studio musician and recording with Michel Legrand, Vladimir Cosma, Michel Colombier and others. From 1973 to 1983 he accompanied Claude Nougaro with Eddie Louiss and Maurice Vander, and played in the orchestras of Martial Solal, Michel Portal and others.  In 1981 he formed his own group, the "Steckar Tubapack", and his first recording in 1982 won the Prix Boris Vian, awarded by the Académie de Jazz. Marc Steckar has recorded over twenty discs using the tuba and in 1990 he started to mix the tuba with other ensembles, big bands, brass bands, wind bands, and choirs. In 1994 he composed several concertos for tuba, euphoniums and trombones and in 1999 received the Sacem Prix Printemps. He has gone on to compose several children’s tales and concertos for clarinet quartet, trumpets and bass trombone, all with wind ensemble.  O.D.A.S.S. est un orchetre d'harmonie créé par  RODOLPHE PIERREPONT. FOR CONNOISSEURS OR  FRENCH JAZZ FANS AND COLLECTOR'S ONLY ! After studying the cello and the trombone at the Paris Conservatoire National Supérieur de Musique he went on to play in a number of Big Bands. In the 1960s he accompanied Marlene Dietrich, Nat King Cole, Sammy Davis and Charles Aznavour, and in 1970 added the tuba, working as a studio musician and recording with Michel Legrand, Vladimir Cosma, Michel Colombier and others. From 1973 to 1983 he accompanied Claude Nougaro with Eddie Louiss and Maurice Vander, and played in the orchestras of Martial Solal, Michel Portal and others.  In 1981 he formed his own group, the "Steckar Tubapack", and his first recording in 1982 won the Prix Boris Vian, awarded by the Académie de Jazz. Marc Steckar has recorded over twenty discs using the tuba and in 1990 he started to mix the tuba with other ensembles, big bands, brass bands, wind bands, and choirs. In 1994 he composed several concertos for tuba, euphoniums and trombones and in 1999 received the Sacem Prix Printemps. He has gone on to compose several children’s tales and concertos for clarinet quartet, trumpets and bass trombone, all with wind ensemble.  O.D.A.S.S. est un orchetre d'harmonie créé par  RODOLPHE PIERREPONT.
