Ce nouveau modèle se distingue de son prédécesseur par une prise en charge de l'UHD-4K, l'HDR, une connectivité sans fil WiFi, une entrée phono et de nombreux services: multiroom FlareConnect et DTS Play-Fi, Deezer, Spotify ou encore Tidal. L'amplificateur home-cinéma Pioneer VSX-S520 est doté de cinq ports HDMI (4 entrées, 1 sortie). L'ensemble de ces ports prennent en charge la résolution UHD-4K en mode passthrough (jusqu'à 4K/60p/4:4:4/24-bit). Par ailleurs, un scaler permet une mise à l'échelle des films de résolution 1080p vers UHD-4K afin de tirer pleinement profit des capacités des téléviseurs et vidéoprojecteurs les plus récents. La norme anticopie HDCP 2.2 est supportée sur l'ensemble des entrées HDMI. La calibration s'opère facilement grâce à un microphone livré avec l'amplificateur. Une fois connecté à celui-ci et la procédure lancée, le micro mesure le son restitué par les enceintes. Après sauvegarde des mesures il offrira un son optimisé à l'espace dans lequel il se trouve.
