très belle paire de candélabres d’autel d’église à 5 bras de lumière en bronze doré, à décor de volutes et de feuillages. Ils reposent sur un piètement tripode.     Époque : Fin XIXème Dimensions : H :54 x l :38cm   Le chandelier est une pièce de mobilier d’église présent dans chaque église et posé sur l’autel.    Le grand chandelier à plusieurs branches prend le nom de candélabre.   Son utilisation remonte aux origines même de l’église et est lié de manière évidente et indissoluble au symbole de la Lumière comme expression de Foi, Espoir et Résurrection du Christ. Le chandelier était autrefois posé par terre et uniquement dans une période successive a été disposé sur l’autel avant le début de la célébration pour être rangé après la Messe.    Au Xème siècle les Statuta Ecclesiae antiquae décrétèrent que l’acolyte sur le point de prononcer ses vœux devait recevoir dans ses mains un chandelier avec le cierge.   Le Concile de Trente établit une codification très précise pour le service d’autel, composé de six chandeliers à utiliser pendant la Messe et sept chandeliers pour le Pontifical du Pape ou pour celui d’un Évêque. La forme du chandelier dérive de son utilisation initiale en tant que pièce de mobilier profane à l’époque préchrétienne: un pied, une tige, un plateau pour la cire et une pique sur laquelle coincer la bougie.   Au cours du temps, les chandeliers atteignirent des dimensions de plus en plus grandes et un soin de plus en plus poussé de la forme et des décorations.    Les matériaux de fabrication aussi ont évolué avec un ample usage de l’or, de l’argent et d’autres métaux précieux, mais aussi de matériaux plus simples comme le bois et le laiton, selon les moyens de l’église.   Au XVI siècle d’autres règles précises concernant le chandelier furent codifiées: son aspect devait rappeler la croix d’autel ; les matériaux précieux devaient être réservés aux célébrations officielles; sa forme devait être simple, linéaire, avec un pied rond ou triangulaire, la tige ciselée, le plateau circulaire avec une pique pour la bougie.   Le chandelier a conservé ces caractéristiques jusqu’à aujourd’hui avec d’inévitables variantes artistiques et formelles liées aux différentes périodes historiques. The candlestick was once placed on the floor and only in a successive period was it placed on the altar before the beginning of the celebration to be put away after the Mass.    In the tenth century the Statuta Ecclesiae antiquae decreed that the acolyte about to pronounce his vows should receive in his hands a candlestick with the candle.   The Council of Trent established a very precise codification for the altar service, consisting of six candlesticks to be used during Mass and seven candlesticks for the Pontifical of the Pope or of a Bishop. The form of the candlestick derives from its initial use as a piece of secular furniture in pre-Christian times: a foot, a stem, a tray for the wax and a spike on which to wedge the candle.   In the course of time, candlesticks became larger and larger, and more and more care was taken with their shape and decoration.    The materials used to make them also evolved, with extensive use of gold, silver and other precious metals, but also simpler materials such as wood and brass, depending on the means of the church.   In the 16th

VG+ records may show some slight signs of wear, including light scuffs or very light scratches that do not affect the listening experience. Slight warps that do not affect the sound are OK. Minor signs of handling are OK, too, such as telltale marks around the center hole, but repeated playing has not misshapen the hole. There may be some very light ring wear or discoloration, but it should be barely noticeable. VG+ covers should have only minor wear. A VG+ cover might have some very minor seam wear or a split (less than one inch long) at the bottom, the most vulnerable location. Also, a VG+ cover may have some defacing, such as a cut-out marking. DURING THE mid 1970s the popularity of progressive rock was at an all time high with acts such as Yes, Jethro Tull and, especially, ELP enjoying huge album sales and playing to sold out crowds the world over. Of course, shadowing these giants of prog were a number of young upstarts keen to make a challenge for gold and glory, not least of these were American mid-west contenders Starcastle. The band’s carefully executed debut album attracted a number of converts, selling something in the region of a quarter of a million copies, resulting in Epic records taking a keener interest. In an effort to up the ante, so to speak, the band was sent into the studio (Morin Heights, Quebec) to record their next album with flamboyant and creative British producer Roy Thomas Baker (Queen, Journey, Foreigner). ‘Fountains Of Light’ is arguably Starcastle’s finest moment. Baker’s production is meticulous yet forceful, allowing the band to stretch out and take on the competition without sacrificing integrity or a natural melodic song writing ability. Packed out with hooks to die for and submerged in complex yet accessible arrangements, the album oozes charm and class. Housed in one of the most impressively designed album sleeves of the seventies ‘Fountains Of Light’ still presses all the right buttons. 24-bit remastering from original source tapes, 4,000 word essay about the making of the album, new interview with band and additional photos spread out over a 16 page full colour booklet.
