My Kingdom Album Notes The Cutter is a strange compilation with cash-in written all over it. The front sleeve reads 12 classic tracks. It's a lie. Yes, some of the songs are among the best recorded by Liverpool's finest post-punk band, but the inclusion of two bizarre covers doesn't help the collection reach any sort of classic status. Perhaps WEA Records thought fans would see The Cutter as a best-of collection, which it isn't; maybe they thought those same fans would clamor for the covers of songs by the Rolling Stones and the Beatles. To start with, the album material isn't necessarily the best of. While the songs are a just-decent sample of some of the finer moments from the band's glory days, Songs to Learn and Sing and Ballyhoo are both better introductions. Albums covered include Crocodiles, Heaven Up Here, Porcupine, Ocean Rain, and Echo & the Bunnymen. There are classics here to be sure: "The Cutter," "A Promise," and "Ocean Rain" are all glorious slices. But there are glaring omissions among these classics, including "Lips Like Sugar," "The Killing Moon," "Bring On the Dancing Horses," and "Never Stop." The Cutter might be a nice find in the used CD bin, if one is looking for one particular track and an assortment of other okay songs. The live covers certainly don't justify the album, as they serve merely to break up an otherwise interesting collection. "Paint It Black" sees Ian McCulloch butchering the classic song like a campy vampire; it actually starts out promising, but McCulloch falls apart about a minute and half in. "All You Need Is Love" just sounds stupid, as if the band had only been rehearsing it for a day; there's no passion in the performance. Le disque The Fantastic Expedition of Dillard and Clark est un album studio sorti en 1973 du duo américain Dillard b'&' Clark. Ce disque marque leur deuxième collaboration après l'enregistrement de l'album « The Clarence White Memorial Band » sorti en 1973. Ce duo est composé du multi-instrumentiste Doug Dillard et du chanteur-guitariste Rodney Clark. Ce disque est considéré comme un classique du genre country rock des années 1970 aux États-Unis. Les onze titres de cet album sont composés par Doug Dillard sauf « Darcy Farrow » qui est signé Rodney Crowell. Les arrangements musicaux sont variés allant des ballades country telles que « Louisiana Woman, Mississippi Man », « Darcy Farrow », ou encore « Old Home Place », aux morceaux plus rock tels que « Polk Salad Annie », « Fireball», ou « Fly Roger Fly ». Le son est très vivant grâce à la présence de nombreux instruments tels que la mandoline, la guitare pedal steel, ou bien les percussions qui apportent une touche folklorique au disque. Les voix de Doug Dillard et Rodney Clark s'accordent harmonieusement sur tous les titres de cet album. Le chant est clair et précis ce qui permet aux paroles d'être bien entendues. Le mixage est excellent avec une bonne balance entre les voix et les instruments. Cet album a été enregistré aux studios Sunset Sound Recorders à Hollywood (Californie) sous la production de Glyn Johns (Eagles, Rolling Stones). Il a été édité sous le label Sugar Hill Records et distribué par MCA Records. Il a atteint la 68e place au Billboard Country Albums Chart aux États-Unis et reste aujourd'hui un des albums préférés des fans de country rock américain des années 1970. Ce CD contient les onze titres originellement présents sur l'album vinyle sorti en 1973 avec des informations supplémentaires telles que des photos des musiciens, des crédits, ou bien des informations sur chaque titre. Il est livré dans une boîte digipack avec une pochette cartonnée imprimée en couleurs. Le son est excellent grâce aux technologies modernes de masterisation numérique.
