Synthese parfaite de l'ensemble de leur carriere,on reconnait des reminiscences de Nixon mais aussi de Is a woman,pour ne citer qu'eux mais ces veterans de l'alternate country vont egalement chasser sur des territoires inconnus comme dans le sommet de cet album,le fameux " Popeye". La voix de Kurt Wagner est toujours aussi belle,toute en nuances et en emotion,avec des petits riens qui touchent souvent au sublime. A noter que l'on retrouve la quasi-totalite de ces titres dans des versions accoustiques sur un album solo de Kurt Wagner vendu lors d'une mini tournee Le meilleur album de Lambchop J'ai decouvert cet album recemment et ensuite je me suis procure tous les autres albums de ce groupe. C'est vrai que les autres albums sont tres bien, particulierement, « Is a woman » et « How I quite smoking », mais cet album est mon prefere. D'abord parce que ce groupe, meme s'il vient de Nashville et qu'il produit une musique un peu folk, je pense qu'il renouvelle le genre. J'ai constate depuis quelques annees, ce renouveau de la musique que je qualifierai « d'intimiste », par moment minimaliste comme dans des groupes plus rocks comme « Tinderstiks » ou « the Apartements » (ecoutez « Evering is Given to Be taken away » de l'album Apart). Je rapprocherai ce genre avec des voix difficilement comprehensibles par moment, des textes et une musique guitare -piano de reve comme dans le derner Eels ou chez Surfjan Stevens. Ici Kurt Wagner a un truc. Il a une voix qui a vecu, patinee. Elle chevrote un peu mais avec l'air d'avoir tout son temps pour ra-conter ses histoires. Ici plus de guitares que dans ces precedents albums, piano omnipresent mais rythme plus lent, un peu a la JJ Cale avec un esprit a la Leonard Cohen en arriere plan mettant sa voix merveilleuse encore plus en avant. A ecouter le soir en jouant au poker par exemple. Et si vous n'aimez pas « popeye », morceau qui sort du lot tant en terme musical qu'en terme de construction et chant alors c'est simple vous n'aimez pas ce genre de musique et vous pouvez passer a autre chose. lent chop tres beau tres classe mais tres lent et a mon sens assez ennuyeux, du leonard cohen au ralenti. Critique Lorsqu?on ecrit que l?equipe a mis les moyens pour l?enregistrement d?OH, on ne fait evidemment pas reference au tiroir-caisse, mais bien aux differentes perspectives musicales offertes par la noria de pupitres. Ainsi, un trombone, des claviers et guitares en cascade, quelques lamelles de vibraphone, et une cohorte de flutes, sont, entre autres, convoques pour que le chanteur et leader Kurt Wagner puisse en tout confort expressionniste proclamer haut et fort deux verites essentielles Lambchop en a termine avec la tradition de la country-music nashvillienne, mais ce n?est pas une raison pour danser la gigue sur les tables.
