As you may know, Orville was a brand of guitars run by the Gibson Guitar Corporation for the Japanese domestic market during the late 1980s and most of the 1990s. The guitars were designed to the highest standards, mimicking to perfection the most valuable Gibson guitars. Though they were not initially made for export, second hand Orvilles have since travelled the world, and because of their rarity have gained a cult-like following over the years. This is one is among the earliest Orvilles from 1989, as evidenced by the K-09 serial sticker on the back of the headstock, and is a great exemple of the exceptional japanese crafstmanship of the era. The guitar is in very nice shape, with the patina of a well cared for 30+ year old guitar: there's tarnishing on the gold pickups and hardware, some tiny marks here and there that I tried my best to photograph, but overall a very well preserved instrument. Neck is arrow straight and true with low action, fret job is flawless. A real easy player. It is also a light and resonant one, with a weight of only 3.82 kg measured on a digital scale (that's 8.42 lbs). Rings out clearly unplugged, sounds amazing plugged in. Sakazo Nakade would be with his brother Rokutaro the first Japanese luthiers who went to Spain in the 1950s to study traditional Spanish lutherie in the workshops of José Ramirez and Hernandez y Aguado. So he is considered the founder of the Japanese school of Spanish guitar making. Sakazo Nakade and his brother have trained a large number of Japanese guitar makers, one of them being Masaru Kohno.   This guitar dates from 1965, on the label is noted the name of the person for whom it was made. The lutherie work is perfectly done. It is a well-balanced instrument, the timbre is rich and expressive, its musicality is lyrical, a beautiful instrument with an endearing character.

I bought this new earlier this year, from Five Star Guitars in Beaverton, Oregon, thinking it would be a fun distraction during quarantine, etc. However, it just isn't *me* (my new Fender Original 50s Stratocaster IS me...), so since I am thinning the herd, I am putting it on the chopping block. Has never been out of my music room, and has spent nearly all its life in the case. It has no nicks/gouges/dents besides the ones that EVH does as part of the relic-ing process. It did take some tinkering to get it set up the way I thought it should be set up, which included putting a.5º StewMac shim in the neck pocket; with the Floyd being not-so-easy-to-adjust, the people at StewMac said they sell a LOT of the 5º and 1º shims for EVHs and other guitars with Floyd Roses on them. Anyway, includes the VH 1971 quarter, if you want to go that route. Comes with the pictured,
