Reich Remixed est un album collectif américain de DJ et musiciens de musique électronique reprenant sous forme d'hommage des titres des compositions de musique minimaliste de Steve Reich. L'album est sorti le 6 février 1999. Le compositeur américain Steve Reich a participé à jeter les bases de la musique minimaliste en 1965 en découvrant par hasard le principe du phasing alors qu'il travaillait sur des enregistrements de bandes magnétiques. De cela est née sa première composition It's Gonna Rain qui influença par la suite son écriture formelle dans le style de la musique de phase, bien qu'il n'utilisa plus les supports électroniques pour son écriture. Cependant, en plus des apports contemporains de la musique concrète, la musique électronique s'est dès lors nourrie de la possibilité du sampling que Steve Reich utilisa au tout début de sa carrière. Cet album est l'hommage de musiciens américains, britanniques, et japonais réunis pour remixer les compositions de Reich. Phil Glass s'est inspiré de l'album Low de David Bowie et Brian Eno sorti en 1977. Il appréciait tout particulièrement cet album qui fait partie de ce que l'on appelle la Trilogie berlinoisedu duo David Bowie/Brian Eno : Low, Heroes et Lodger. David Bowie et Brian Eno reconnaissent avoir été fortement influencés par les compositions de Steve Reich et de Philip Glass pour ces trois albums, utilisant boucles rythmiques et sonores comme dans la musique minimaliste.  Le premier mouvement, Subterraneans, est le dernier titre de l'album de Bowie/Eno, tiré d'une musique que Bowie avait à l'origine composée pour le film de science fiction de Nicolas Roeg, The man who fell to earth (L'homme qui venait d'ailleurs). Bowie y tenait le rôle principal de l'alien, perdu sur notre terre, sans espoir de retour vers sa planète mourante. Bowie voulait évoquer un monde qui meurt et une nouvelle vie qui commence. Cette idée semble s'exprimmer chez Glass par une dichotomie entre un début très linéaire, nostalgique qui bascule aux deux tiers vers une partie dynamique, au tempo plus rapide et au rythme syncopé plus marqué. Le deuxième mouvement, Some are, est inspiré d’un titre qui ne figurait pas dans l’album sorti en 1977, mais dans une édition ultérieure, en bonus. Avec des accents amples et épiques, tout en rythmes saccadés et en chromatismes descendants, des schémas très caractéristiques de Glass, ce mouvement réserve des moments de grande intensité entrecoupés d'accalmies, le tout créant une atmosphère assez tendue. Le troisième mouvement, Warszawa, est le plus méditatif et sans doute le plus proche du titre dont il est inspiré. Warszawa est souvent considéré comme la plage la plus réussie de l'album de Bowie uqi a voulu évoquer la misère de Varsovie durant l'ère communiste, un morceau d'une certaine intensité dramatique. Glass n'y a pas résisté. Avec un début linéaire et sombre, l'orchestre semble avancer progressivement vers la lumière, vers une fin solaire.
