Since it was developed for vocal applications mainly, it has a presence boost above 3kHz and can withstand really high SPL. Much like with its cardioid sibling, the MD421, it’s virtually impossible to get a distorted signal out of this mic. In the studio, it can be used as a soft, jazzy kick drum mic, on guitar cabinets and on many instruments where you want to capture a mellow and natural ambient sound without very detailed transients or highs. This is because it is a large-diaphraghm dynamic omni, and as such probably unique in its properties even in most serious studio microphone collections.

Electronic parts have been upgraded by Roger West himself to Toroid 2 level one month ago. I've made a custom wood frame to accomodate new transformers (which are too big to get inside the original frame). Speaker's impendance has been raised as well.   This is the only pair of A3 upgraded to Toroid 2 level worldwide (as Toroid 2 upgrade has never been made before for A3 speakers). New toroidal transformers and higher sensibility make them easy to drive with any decent amplifier. So, this particular pair of A3 is not only in a virtualy new condition, they also sound better than new. The sound can be described by one word only: glorious !  I have compared Soundlab A3 to Quad ESL 2912 and Stax ELS 8X in my room. Soundlab are MUCH better in every possible way. Genuine sought after KLEMT Echolette BS40 in perfect working condition.  Early Marshall-type sounding machine (think old Jtm 45 style) made in Germany, all original, this great Amp delivers 40W of pure quality sound either for Bass or Guitar. Think British beat era, Hamburg boys.. early Yardbirds, Beatles, Kinks, Small Faces, Easybeats kind of bands that all certainly played on those ones..  It has a real clear and pure sound, with a lot of presence. Just tried it back the recent days to give it a full check before putting on sell: anything works as it should, I think I already hate seeing it go away..  need to finance new projects and this beauty deserves to be played.
