First I tried the Prime as an Amp/Dac combo (with PSU) and I immediately loved the sound from this demo unit: Enormous Clarity, great detail retrieval from bass to treble, top precision and dynamic sound. All presented with just the right amount of air between the instruments. Musical and detailed sound with a superb flow. The Prime sounds fast and is neutrally tuned but the best solid state kind there is. Maybe it is just slightly forward sounding, but not that much. Bass is tight, goes deep, is well layered and has a lot of detail but doesn’t have the big body of say the Beyerdynamic A20 amplifier (but it has far better quality). The Prime is a linear tuned unit and I find the bass to be perfect (and that’s an understatement) with the Audeze and Hifiman headphones but more on those later. The Prime’s mids are slightly more forward sounding, especially the vocals, but they are not bright. Don’t get me wrong on that because they sound incredibly good: perfect separation, great timbre, heaps of detail but never over-analytical and always musical and dynamic. Treble is extended and detailed but never harsh sounding. I do like my treble and the Prime does a splendid job for my taste. Treble is on the same level as the mids and bass: clarity, detail and sparkle. The Prime’s sound stage is wide and deep with a perfect balance and 3-dimensionality. I fell in love with the Prime’s sound as a DAC/Amp unit. Gordon Holt - The founder of Stereophile I'm selling a beautiful pair of Sound Lab A-3 electrostatic speakers in better-than-new condition. New mylar membranes have been installed the last year. Electronic parts have been upgraded by Roger West himself to Toroid 2 level one month ago. I've made a custom wood frame to accomodate new transformers (which are too big to get inside the original frame). Speaker's impendance has been raised as well.   This is the only pair of A3 upgraded to Toroid 2 level worldwide (as Toroid 2 upgrade has never been made before for A3 speakers). New toroidal transformers and higher sensibility make them easy to drive with any decent amplifier. So, this particular pair of A3 is not only in a virtualy new condition, they also sound better than new. The sound can be described by one word only: glorious !  I have compared Soundlab A3 to Quad ESL 2912 and Stax ELS 8X in my room. Soundlab are MUCH better in every possible way. They have completely different sound dispersion pattern, which makes them sound more lively, more organic, more life-like, and more dynamic. They will create in your room a spectacular gigantic immersion-space, much bigger and more lively than any other speaker regardless of the price. I am selling my Aaron preamplifier because I have decided to upgrade to an integrated valve amplifier. The device is in excellent condition with no marks to note and i have used it in conjunction with my Meridian power amplifier to great affect. It comes with a solid aluminum remote control and manual. See the image for all input / output options. Unfortunately I don't have the original box but rest assured i will package the unit safely for transportation including a double box.   I bought it from a hifi enthusiast (like me) and critic in Montpellier about 2 years ago. He had it about 4 years before that. He told me he even preferred the Aaron to his Ayre preamplifier. This amplifier is still in production and can be purchased direct from Aaron (aaron-amplifiers (point) com) for € 3000. The cineast # 22 is designed as a home theater preamplifier, but it also performs amazingly in a 2 channel hi-fi setup. It is a pure analogue unit wth no digital processing involved. There is a good review on Hifiplus if you are looking for it.   It would be best to arrange delivery once we have a sale as i would recommend insured delivery with UPS.

The first version seems more musical according to the professionals who marketed it and compared it to the second version. I will not comment on this point, not having listened to the second.
