Bruce Springteen streets of philadelphia 12" Picture disc rare !!! "Streets of Philadelphia" is a song written and performed by American rock musician Bruce Springsteen for the film Philadelphia (1993) starring Tom Hanks, an early mainstream film dealing with HIV/AIDS. Released as a single in 1994, the song was a hit in many countries, particularly in Austria, Canada, France, Germany, Iceland, Ireland, Italy, and Norway, where it topped the singles charts. In the United States, the single peaked at number nine on the Billboard Hot 100. The song received acclaim and went on to win the Academy Award for Best Original Song and four Grammy Awards: Song of the Year, Best Rock Song, Best Rock Vocal Performance, Solo, and Best Song Written Specifically for a Motion Picture or Television. In 2004, it finished at number 68 on AFI's 100 Years...100 Songs survey of top tunes in American cinema. The song is listed among the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame's 500 Songs that Shaped Rock and Roll. In early 1993, Philadelphia director Jonathan Demme asked Springsteen to write a song for his film, adding "I want it to play in the malls." Springsteen replied, "Well, I'm interested, so I'd like to come up with a song for you. If you give me some time, I'll see, but I can't promise." Springsteen recalled adding, "I'm not very good at scores". In late August, after the conclusion of the "Other Band" Tour, he recorded a demo of his completed song at Thrill Hill Recording, Beverly Hills, California (his home studio), supplying all of the instrumentation. He mailed the tape to Demme, who later said, "my wife and I sat down and listened to it, and we were literally weeping by the end". Meanwhile, background vocals were added by Tommy Sims (from the "Other Band"). In October, Springsteen recorded it at A&M Studios in Los Angeles, with Sims, Ornette Coleman on saxophone, and vocals by "Little" Jimmy Scott. It was mixed by Bob Clearmountain, included in the soundtrack, and the video was shot. However, in mid-December, Springsteen suddenly replaced it with his home demo from August, re-shooting some video scenes to eliminate Scott. The four-man combo version can be heard in a brief scene in the film when Tom Hanks exits Denzel Washington's office, but it was Bruce alone playing over the opening credits. "Streets of Philadelphia" was released on February 2, 1994, as the first single from the film's original soundtrack, with Springsteen singing and playing all the instruments and Tommy Sims on background vocals, and became a chart success worldwide. "Streets of Philadelphia" achieved greater popularity in Europe than in the United States. While it peaked at number nine on the Billboard Hot 100 chart, it became a number-one single in Germany, France and Austria. It peaked at number two in the United Kingdom, becoming Springsteen's highest charting hit in Britain, and number four in Australia. *** 4 Classic GOON SHOWs from BBC Transcription Service *** Talking about the influence of The Goon Shows on the British comedy that followed it, The Wikipedia entry states: - Eddie Izzard notes that the Goons and Milligan in particular b'"'influenced a new generation of comedians who came to be known as 'alternative'.b'"' John Cleese [of Monty Python fame] notes that b'"'In comedy, there are a very small number of defining moments when somebody comes along and genuinely creates a breakthrough, takes us into territory where nobody has been before. The only experiences to which I can compare my own discovery of the Goons are going to see N. F. Simpson's play One Way Pendulum... or, later on, hearing Peter Cook for the first time. They were just light years ahead of everyone else.b'"' These four vintage episodes come from the middle of the show's life run and were recorded in November and December 1956. BBC Transcription Service disks of the shows were distributed throughout the Commonwealth the follow year and were later released in the USA. In all there were over 240 Goon Shows, most written entirely by Spike Milligan, an amazing output. These two disks are not in the best condition and do have some surface noise, Nonetheless, a lot of pleasure and fun can be had from listening to them and what Goon Fan wouldn't want to own them? (NOTE: These disks have been spot-checked for condition.) (28' 02b'"') The BBC Transcription Service pioneered full-range high fidelity recording in the BBC and was the first to regularly record in stereo and quadraphonically; it pioneered using Dolby A noise reduction. BBC Transcription Service records had short print runs, usually around 100 discs, and most copies were destroyed after broadcasting rights expired. This rare example was obtained directly from the BBC TS's own undistributed stock. These limited edition LPs include the original BBC TS cover. J-Friends CD Collector japonais People of the World  Collector officiel (SRCL 4500). Voici un CD Maxi single du groupe japonais J-Friends, sorti le 16 janvier 1999 au Japon, contenant une chanson inédite de Michael Jackson. Cela n'est pas la première fois que le Roi de la Pop offrait un morceau au groupe J-Friends. En Février 1998, il leur avait déjà fait cadeau d'un titre magnifique, Children's Holiday. Cette fois-ci, c'est une chanson baptisée People Of The World que Michael a généreusement offerte aux J-Friends. Encore une fois, tous les bénéfices générés par ce morceau furent reversés à une fondation japonaise pour l'enfance. Et bien que People Of The World soit sorti en tirage limité, l'engouement du public japonais pour cette chanson a été fulgurant. L'opération fut un immense succès, tous les exemplaires du disque se vendant en un temps record. Il faut dire que, fidèle à son habitude, le Roi de la Pop n'avait pas négligé la production de cette chanson; il avait enregistré la version instrumentale à Los Angeles avec ses musiciens et ses choristes habituels (Jorge del Barrio, Paulinho Da Costa, Kevin Dorsey, Steve Porcaro...), il l'avait mixé avec le plus grand soin et, lorsque le moment fut venu d'enregistrer les voix en japonais, il supervisa personnellement l'interprétation des J-Friends en leur donnant des conseils très précis sur la manière dont ils devaient chanter. Sur le CD maxi single People Of The World, on peut ainsi découvrir la version instrumentale, entièrement produite et enregistrée par Michael à Los Angeles, et une version chantée par les J-Friends sous la direction de Michael. Il faut préciser que la version instrumentale de People Of The World comporte tout de même des choeurs américains (chantés par 45 personnes!), dirigé par le fameux Tom Bahler (She's Out Of My Life). Il est évident que le Roi de la Pop n'avait pas fait les choses à moitié. Il s'était impliqué dans cette chanson comme s'il allait l'utiliser sur son propre album. Les orchestrations sont magnifiques! En bref, voici une édition en tirage limité à ne pas rater. Bon état. The group has a distinct sound of its own, often led by Hornsby's bright piano chords and elastic tenor, with cohesive and evocative arrangements; there is new age music here, as well as jazz and country, and the mixture is presented naturally by musicians who seem to have been playing with each other for some time. Similarly, the songwriting has its own flavor. Hornsby wrote seven of the nine songs with his brother John Hornsby, and they create their own world, a working-class environment of longing and loneliness set against the background of the Virginia Tidewater area. (The album cover displays a sepia-toned photograph of the band set over another photograph of the long Chesapeake Bay Bridge.) The lyrics are lightly poetic and restrained, for the most part. The exception is the title song (written by Bruce Hornsby alone), a brave if somewhat clumsily written attack on the heartless right-wing politics of the mid-'80s, as the U.S. suffered through a second Reagan administration determined to roll back civil rights gains. The boldness of the statement and the lovely piano theme more than compensate for the awkward writing, however, making the song one of the album's most memorable. And that's saying a lot when the competition includes the engaging "Mandolin Rain" and the appealingly romantic "Every Little Kiss" (Hornsby's other sole writing credit). Perhaps it shouldn't be a surprise that the music is so accomplished. Hornsby was no teenage neophyte when he made it, having kicked around the music business and gotten into his thirties, and the band includes such veterans as David Mansfield, who may be remembered as a member of Bob Dylan's Rolling Thunder troupe and the Alpha Band, as well as being a film composer. Sometimes a debut album just happens to be the first music most people get to hear by a mature talent, and that's the case here on the debut album of the year. THE ORNETTE COLEMAN DOUBLE QUARTET FREE JAZZ - Atlantic SD 1364  MONO 1961 VG++. État : Occasion  - Used Avec GATEFOLD ETAT / CONDITION Pour le vinyl, VG++ soit très bon état du disque qui joue parfaitement, très dynamique avec puissance, relief, etc... avec très peu de bruits de fond, tels que crépitements qui peuvent etre cependant faiblement perceptibles dans les plages calmes. Présence de deux fines griffures assez longues, (trace du saphir) face 1 et 2, qui sont sans consequence sur la qualité audio et imperceptibles à l'écoute. Le disque est nettoyé. La pochette est G - VG avec décollement de la pellicule sur l'arrière et au bord de l'ouverture. Elle a été recollée mais taches de colle visibles (voir photo). Ttace d'ancien adhesif sur le devant et la tranche. Le texte sur tranche est encore bien lisible.  Diverses petites taches interieures (roussures)  dans le gatefold. Traces d'humidité ancienne (seches maintenant) dans les deux coins inferieurs droits. En résumé la pochette présente des traces d'usures importantes, ce qui semble en partie logique vue son âge (ce n'est pas une copie quasi neuve) Pochette intérieure Atlantic, vrai original en état moyen. (usure au bord de l'ouverture) A noter et c'est important que la pochette est celle prévue pour le stereo. Cependant deux stickers ou est inscrit " MONO" sont collés sur l'arrière de la pochette (voir photo). Egalement gros sticker " barclay en direct des USA distribution exclusive". On peut en deduire que Barclays et Atlantic ont pu etre à cours de pochette mono pour l'export du mono et qu'ils ont utilisés des pochettes stereo en dépannage...Quoiqu'il en soit le disque est bien mono avec les bons numeros sur le runout(voir paragraphe du dessous) Vinyl Record: VG ++, plays excellent, great audio with a few light crackling at some point, in the quiet passage The sleeve is G, VG with  wear large enough, small stains inside the gotefold, wear at the corners...glue stain marks on the back, etc (see pictures) Original Atlantic inner sleeve in about VG conditions(wear on the opening of the inner sleeve) Please, note an official Special stickers " mono" glued on the back. The sleeve is a stereo sleeve, however the record is well a mono..(numbers on runout) imported from US by Barclay (see sticker inside gatefold) may be the correct sleeve (mono) wasn't available at this time and Barclays - Atlantixc have furnished a stereo sleeve. That's interesting, indeed this freejazz record has knew a great succes at the departure and mono sleeve could be missing....  -------------------------------------------------------------- Notes FREE JAZZ was recorded in one uninterrupted "take" of 36 minutes 23 seconds. This performance by Ornette Coleman's Double Quartet is heard exactly as it was performed in the studio, without any splicing or editing. Side One ends with a quick fade-out, and the music resumes with a minimum of interruption on Side Two. On stereo Ornette Coleman, Don Cherry, Scott LaFaro and Billy Higgins are heard on the left channel, Eric Dolphy, Freddie Hubbard, Charlie Haden and Ed Blackwell are heard right. Mono version with orange and purple vinyl label that features a "white fan logo" on a black background. Packaged in a heavy cardboard gatefold sleeve. Regarded as one of the greatest musicians of his generation, and guitar virtuoso, he worked across multiple genres performing in a flamboyant and androgynous persona, with a wide vocal range which included a far-reaching falsetto and high-pitched screams.[Prince's music integrated a wide variety of styles, including funk, R&B, Latin, rock, new wave, classical, soul, synth-pop, psychedelia, pop, jazz, and hip hop. He pioneered the Minneapolis sound, a funk rock subgenre that emerged in the late 1970s. He was also known for his prolific output, releasing 39 albums during his life, with a vast array of unreleased projects left in a vault at his home after his death; it is believed that the vault contains dozens of fully produced albums and over 50 music videos that have never been released, along with various other media.[He released hundreds of songs both under his own name and multiple pseudonyms during his life, as well as writing songs that were made famous by other musicians, such as "Nothing Compares 2 U" and "Manic Monday". Estimates of the complete number of songs written by Prince range anywhere from 500 to well over 1,000. Born and raised in Minneapolis, Minnesota, Prince signed a recording contract with Warner Bros. Records at the age of 19. Prince went on to achieve critical success with the innovative albums Dirty Mind (1980), Controversy (1981), and 1999 (1982). His sixth album, Purple Rain (1984), was recorded with his backup band the Revolution, and was the soundtrack to his film acting debut of the same name. Purple Rain spent six consecutive months atop the Billboard 200. Prince won the Academy Award for Best Original Song Score. After disbanding the Revolution, Prince went on to achieve continued critical success with Sign o' the Times (1987). In the midst of a contractual dispute with Warner Bros in 1993, he changed his stage name to the unpronounceable symbol  (known to fans as the "Love Symbol"), and was sometimes referred to as The Artist Formerly Known as Prince or TAFKAP, or simply the Artist. He signed with Arista Records in 1998 and began referring to himself by his own name again in 2000. After returning to mainstream prominence following a performance at the Grammy Awards ceremony in 2004, he scored six US top ten albums over the following decade. Joni Mitchell said of Prince, "He's driven like an artist.
