MONTBLANC Patron Of Art NAPOLEON BONAPARTE Limited Edition 888 - Fountain Pen Napoléon Bonaparte (1769–1821) was a great patron of the arts and dedicated a lot of attention to Neoclassicism, reviving of the Classical styles of ancient Greece and Rome in the European continent. Napoléon promoted artists to work in the Neoclassical style and built La Madeleine, Arc de Triomphe and other extraordinary objects. The overall design of the pen is inspired by the neoclassic style. The fountain pen is made of lacquer with platinum coated fittings and an Au750 solid yellow gold overlay. The decoration on the skeleton grid shows oak leaves to represent the strenght and longevity, olives leaves as a symbol of strength and victory and immortality as well as bees as a symbole to disconnect from Bourbons and link to Mérovingiens. The skeleton spiral on the cap and barrel is inspired by the original Colonne Vendome with the infinite role of the army. The decoration on the cap top pays homage to symbols from his reign: the coronational laurel crown, the imperial crown, the eagle. The cap is crowned by the Montblanc Emblem in Mother Of Pearl. The clip, decorated with a N, is inspired by a sword blade. The red clip stone pays homage to Josephine’s coronation ring. The cone is decorated with Napoléons bee and an Egyptian palm pattern from empire style. MONTBLANC 2013 LEONARDO Da VINCI Great Characters Limited Edition 3000 - Fountain Pen Leonardo's fascination with human flight influences the overall design of this Limited Edition, each detail taken from the numerous studies he produced for each of his elaborate flying devices from parachutes, to hand gliders and helicopters. The cap and barrel of the writing instrument are crafted from anodized aluminium, a reference to the material now used to build todayʼs flying machines or aeroplanes. The polished platinum plated fittings are reproductions of da Vinciʼs studies for wedge connections, the shape on the cone refers to the double movement transmission conceptualized by da Vinci over 500 years ago and the red gold plated gear at the end of the clip is reminiscent of the many cogwheels the Italian master used in his designs. This design is completed with the engraved nib with one of da Vinci's famous drawings of a bat whose wings he studied, while the forefront of the pen is etched with his own sketch of a mechanical wing. A subtle reference to his practice of mirror writing gives the Montblanc emblem in precious resin which is unexpectedly concealed within the cap and its reflection can be seen in a mirror placed inside the cap top. La montre et le bracelet sont parfaits, seule la pochette extérieure en carton de la boîte présente quelques traces d'usure. La batterie est d'origine, donc je ne peux pas dire quelle durée de vie elle peut avoir, mais elle tient actuellement l'heure. Expédié depuis la France en Colissimo, suivi inclus. I don't know too much about the manufacturer, but some resources suggest that this was made in partnership with Citizen. As new, it has never been worn. The watch and strap are perfect, only the outer cardboard sleeve for the box has some signs of wear. The battery is original, so I cannot say what life it may have, but it is currently keeping time.
