Read books online for free at Emma Goldman's essays collected I've heard from many people who are interested in reading books about anarchism (allthough i think the term "anarchism" is incorrect) that most books about anarchy are "heavy" and difficult to get through much less understand because they aim their content to readers that have a good backround of political understanding (its terminologies, its "schools" of thought, its currents and so forth..). If this happens to be your problem then this book will be ideal if you want to discover what this political philosophy stands for and what its issues are and, indeed, have been for a long time. Emma Goldman, a woman with as fiery a personality as they come, has put together here a number of essays about anarchy that are easy to comprehend and definately thought inspiring. Despite this book having been first published in 1917 it loses nothing of its importance in the current state affairs as all of the issues Goldman deals with not only remain unsolved but they have -in the meantime- become a social burden or a social disaster much worse than back in her time. Oh, and back in her time things already looked bad enough. What you get here is, summarily, the following: -anarchy, what is it and what does it stand for? Beyond the mainstream media cliches anarchy stands for personal and societal freedom of the highest conceivable order. A freedom, anarchists insist, that is not a utopia. It's basically a hard lesson in crushing your illusions and opening unthought of doors of perception of what freedom really means. That would be then something other than being in a cage and having food thrown in. Even if the cage is invisible.. -Hard punching essays about the prison system and the everself-destructing notion of patriotism.. Funny how every line one reads in there could've been written yesterday. Not much has changed. After decades and decades of the imprisonment system has society become more law-abiding? That would be a thundering no. Why is that? As for patriotism, the incredible notion of dying for your country the same one that might be killing you slowly while draining you of all your resources and enslaving you in a wage system and a daily mindless-toil called "work". here, Emma has to say a lot. There's always a reason to die if someone is going to make money out of it (that would be NOT you) and dress the whole "cause" up as patriotic.. -The hypocrisy of puritanism as well as the seemingly eternal joke of marriage and "love" are also given the treatment they deserve. In a society based on hypocrisy alltogether, you have to start on a personal level. You have to lose your personal chains before you attempt to free others. Your personal chains begin with the things you've been taught to hold most sacred (as is generally the case). The morals that are not yours. Whom do they really serve? The institutions that everyone notices they have fail and yet most continue to serve them. Why? How can this possibly be? These are just some of the issues dealt with in Emma's essays. A classic book that will basically reprogram your brain if you honestly think about the issues in it. But reprogrammed into what? Well, it will only reprogram you into thinking for yourself. For once. If you do, you'll find that the illusion you've been living in does indeed serve someone. Your long hard road to becoming an individual will thus commence. Good, But Not the Best Collection of Emma's Work This is a good collection of essays by Emma Goldman; however, it is not the best one available. That would be _Red Emma Speaks_, which contains the best material in this volume as well as other excellent essays and excerpts from her entire life's work. In addition, all of this book is available on the Web. So I would have to recommend that those interested in Emma's work get _Red Emma Speaks_ instead of this one. as relevent today as it was in Emma Goldman's day Being historically one the more important yet obscure figures in American history, Emma Goldman's anarchist thought is as relevent today as it was when she wrote "Anarchism, and Other Essays". In an age where political apathy, intellectual ignorance and spiritual corruption are the failings of modern civilzation, Emma Goldman's Enlightenment thought is illuminating in its message of the power of direct action as she so lucidly illustrates: "Anarchism urges man to think, to investigate, to analyze every proposition... (Anarchism is the) philosophy of a new social order based on liberty unrestricted by man-made law; the theory that all forms of government rest on violence, and are therefore wrong and harmful, as well as unnecessary. "The new social order rests, of course, on the materialistic basis of life; but while all Anarchists agree that the main evil today is an economic one, they maintain that the solution of that evil can be brought about only through the consideration of every phase of life,--individual, as well as the collective; the internal, as well as the external phases. "A thorough perusal of the history of human development will disclose two elements in bitter conflict with each other; elements that are only now beginning to be understood, not as foreign to each other, but as closely related and truly harmonious, if only placed in proper environment: the individual and social instincts. The individual and society have waged a relentless and bloody battle for ages, each striving for supremacy, because each was blind to the value and importance of the other. The individual and social instincts,--the one a most potent factor for individual endeavor, for growth, aspiration, self-realization; the other an equally potent factor for mutual helpfulness and social well-being." From just that little exerpt it is easy to understand why any and all authority was terrified of Emma Goldman and why her important contributions to society have been muzzled from histories - down the "memory hole" to use an Orwellian expression.Again, "Anarchism, and Other Essays" is as relevent today as it was in Emma Goldman's day and necessary material for anyone truly interested or involved in altruistic direct action. It is also the first time that the twentieth-century Chester marks have been published. It is produced in dictionary format, in alphabetical order from 1570, the date of the earliest known mark, to 1962 at which time the Chester assay office was closed. The authors, both members of the silver society, were given unlimited access to the Chester assay office records covering 1686 to 1962, and to the Chester Goldsmith's Company records dating from the 16th century. The compendium has four sections. The preface provides an historical background and details of all extant records and copper plates. Part 1 is devoted to assay office marks, with a full set of date letter tables to assist the reader in dating wares. Part 2 covers nearly 10,000 entries for makers' marks, including pictograms and monograms. Finally, the appendices include items on assay volumes and charges, thimble makers, and Liverpool watchcase makers. Since over 2,000 of the entries have Birmingham addresses, the new work will also enhance available information on jewellers and silversmiths working in this important trade center. Leurs modèles de casque respiratoire contre les fumées et de casque contre les...... bien   2°HISTORIQUE    DORE CHEVET LA SAGA  INDUSTRIELLE ET SOCIALE "CHEVE ETDORE CHAPPEE " © Guilhaine Faivre / 2013 LE LIEU Celle-ci se situe dans la Sarthe, département à vocation plutôt rurale mais les forges existent depuis des temps anciens et notamment celle de Saint- Jamme sur Sarthe lieudit Antoigné, village situé à 13 kms de la Ville du Mans. C’est ce site qui de viendra l’Usine CHAPPEE. L’EPOQUE Nous sommes à la fin du XVII° siècle et l’aventure industrielle de cette région va prendre son développement au cours de la période 1800-1900. L’ORIGINE Les Beaumanoirs de Lavardin sont les fondateurs des grosses forges d’Antoigné, forges exploitées avant 1618 UN LIEU ET DES RESSOURCES NATURELLES La rivière la Sarthe Des forêts alentour, la forêt de Lavardin, des bois de La Milesse et de La Bazoge, soit au total seulement 850 hectares affectés à la forge. Viendront s’y ajouter les bois et forêts d’Antoigné, Mézières, Neuville, Bonnétable, Tucé, Chérancé. En cas de besoin, les forgerons achètent par adjudication du bois dans les forêts domaniales de Sillé-le-Guillaume et de Perseigne. 1789 ET LES ANNEES SUIVANTES UNE PERIODE POUR LE MOINS TROUBLEE En 1798, la forge fut adjugée pour 2 010 000 francs à Nicolas Jacques Augustin Hébert de Hauteclerc, ingénieur des Ponts et Chaussées, originaire d’Alençon. Vont alors se succéder différents propriétaires et/ou gestionnaires (prennant en location les forges et les exploitant). Le dernier exploitant avant l’arrivée de Messieurs DORE et CHEVE est Isidore BUON qui fera faillite en 1848. LE CONTEXTE ECONOMIQUE Après la révolution, les méthodes de gestion restent identiques mais le contexte économique des forges évolue rapidement:   * une crise inhérente à deux facteurs: la médiocrité du minerai de fer local et les difficultés liées à son transport. * d´autres difficultés sont à surmonter: la concurrence des fers du Berry ou du Nivernais et celle d’établissements utilisant la houille à la manière anglaise et produisant fonte et fer à moindre coût, sans parler des fers étrangers (Suède et Espagne). L’ARRIVEE D UN NOUVEAU SOUFFLE SUR ANTOIGNE Tout d’abord Victor DORE, exemple d’ascension sociale. Fils de Louis DORE commis à la forge d’Antoigné et petit fils de Julien DORE fondeur de ce même établissement. Victor DORE nait le 9 septembre 1814 à Saint Jamme sur Sarthe. Il entre à 14 ans comme apprenti mouleur aux forges d’Antoigné et y devient maître fondeur. En 1841, il s’associé à Joseph CHEVE et les 2 hommes fondent la même année la fonderie de Saint Pavin des Champs dans la Sarthe. Elle a pour but la fonte des mêtaux de tourte sorte.Ils s’associent sous la forme de Société en Nom Collectif (S.N.C. sous la raison sociale « CHEVE DORE qui deviendra, 4 ans plus tard en 1845 « DORE CHEVE et Cie. La dynamique DORE –CHEVE est en marche. En 1854 Victor DORE et Joseph CHEVE signent le bail par lequel ils prennent la gestion d’Antoigné. Ils décident de redémarrer le haut fourneau. Les 2 usines vont alors bénéficier d’un très fort développement reposant sur des bouleversements économiques importants:   * le chemin de fer (inauguration de la gare du mans le 28 mai 1854) et toutes les fournitures qui s’y rapporte * le télégraphe (et la fourniture des fils et autres matériaux). Cela justifie la reconstruction du haut fourneau d’Antoigné et la création d’un atelier de moulerie. LA SEPARATION EN 1860, Victor DORE et Joseph CHEVE se séparent. JOSEPH CHEVE Joseph CHEVE, sur lequel on a peu de renseignements, crée alors en 1863 une fonderie et un laminoir de cuivre à l’AUNE Commune de Montreuil le Chétif. IL y travaillera avec son gendre Marcel HEDIN et y produit des planches, des barres à décolleter et du fil de laiton. En 1899, dans l’usine toute proche de la Gaudinière, il installeune fabrication semblable mais plus importante. Son premier directeur, Albert Lego installe une fonderie de laiton concurrente à Sceaux. ARMAND CHAPPEE Tout commence par un heureux mariage. Armand CHAPPEE épouse en 1850 la fille ainée de Victor DORE Armand CHAPPEE devient vite le plus proche collaborateur de Victor DORE, et cela d’autant plus que la séparation avec joseph CHEVE intervient en 1860. Un autre événement moins joyeux en 1860: le haut fourneau d’Antoigné est détruit par suite d’une incendie. Il sera remplacé par des cubilots et Saint Jamme sur Sarthe devient« fonderie de seconde fusion ». L’évolution est en marche. En 1867, Armand CHAPPEE renforce son rôle de direction dans les usines suite à la paralysie de son beau père. Armand CHAPPEE devient véritable directeur après le partage des biens entre les 2 sœurs DORE en 1875. En quelques années, les produits des Usines CHAPPEE d’Antoigné puis de Port Brillet (en 1882, CHAPPEE achète le site de Port Brillet à la Société PAILLARD DUCLERE) sont vendus dans la France entière et dans de nombreux pays étarngers. DECES DE VICTOR DORE Victor DORE décède en 1898. DECES D’ARMAND CHAPPEE Armand CHAPPE meurt en 1922. Le décès d’Armand Chappée entraîne la dissolution de la Société Chappée et fils et inaugure la création de la Société Anonyme des établissements Chappée par ses fils Louis et Julien et par ses petits-fils Pavin, Gervais et Benoît. Cette date de 1922 marque également le début de la guerre entre les héritiers. En 1895, il s’était associé avec ses 2 fils Jules et Louis mais ceux-ci ne pourront pas s’entendre après le décès de leur père sur la direction de l’entreprise. Peu de temps après le départ de Louis (le fils cadet qui travaillait de longue date avec son père dans l’entreprise) qui cède ses parts à son frère en 1926, L’entreprise est donc revendue à Jean Raty, gérant de la Société des hauts fourneaux de Saulnes en Lorraine qui crée la Société Générale de Fonderie. LA SOCIETE GENERALE DE FONDERIE Après la seconde guerre Mondiale, l’usine d’Antoigné, intégrée à la Générale de Fonderie, va pleinement profiter de la reconstruction et de l’augmentation du niveau de vie. Avec la généralisation du chauffage central, la production des radiateurs devient une excellente affaire. L’entreprise atteint 1800 personnes dans les années 60. Après la mécanisation des années 1959 et 60, la production de radiateurs, principale production de l’usine, peut atteindre 400 000 éléments par an et l’usine est en pleine expansion. Toutefois, à cette période, l’entreprise achète des usines tout azimut mais ne prend pas en compte le développement du chauffage électrique et les conséquences du premier choc pétrolier. L’usine va progressivement péricliter jusqu´à sa fermeture en 1984. Cruche à goulot de Martincamp, grès flammé. Ces cruches étaient destinées à contenir de la boisson, eau ou jus de pommes et/ou "amélioré" (calva). Forme oblongue, col à large bord ourlé, anse digitée en creux, et marque au poucier à la base (typique de Martincamp). Panse striée, et pied légèrement marqué. Glaçure dite "à la flamme", mat du côté non exposé au feu. Dimensions: 28,5 cm hauteur x 18,5 cm largeur (anse incluse). Poids: 1,750 kg (hors emballage).  Bon état. Anciennes petites égrenures d'usage en bord du goulot,  ou peut-être occasionnées lors de la sortie du four (les pièces étaient souvent entassées les unes au dessus des autres).
