Grey Matter E! for DX7II is a circuit board attached to the DX7IIFD, DX7IID  synthesizer main board that turns an otherwise normal DX7II-FD or DX7II-D into a fully featured workstation machine.     Expanded internal Memory   E! enlarges the internal RAM memory of your DX by four times and allows it to hold 256 single sounds (called Voices) and 128 Performance memories (multi-voice combinations).   The total internal memory is divided into 4 Banks. ESI features 22.05 kHz and 44.1 kHz sampling rates and 16-bit resolution for CD quality sound. Sampling can be performed in either mono or true stereo. 64 channels of polyphony allow you to stack sounds or create lush sequences without fear of channel “ripoff”. The user-upgradable memory can be expanded to a maximum of 128 Mbytes using standard SIMM modules (Details and installation are available at your E-mu dealer).   The ESI has full access to the huge library of sounds available from E-mu and other sources. It is based on the Savitech SA9227 asynchronous USB receiver clocked by two TCXO oscillators which are used as the master clock to control the timing. This asynchronous USB transfer mode will give this device the responsibility to clock the data transfer instead of of your computer which has a clock of lesser quality with more noise and jitter introduced. It accepts up to 384kHz sample rates and 16/24/32 bit. No drivers are necessary on MAC and linux computers ! On Windows it can work without drivers up to 96kHz/24bit and with ASIO drivers up to 384/32. (Note that not all programs support ASIO). There is a switch that switches between Low and High sample rate mode. When set to Low, it works up to 96/24 with no drivers needed in Windows. It utilises the USB port for power, so no external power supply is required. Also the outputs and inputs are ground isolated from USB.
