This quilt is a little heavier and softer than most because BOTH sides have been pieced.   It measures approximately 95” long and 66” wide.   It is big enough to be a twin-sized quilt and might fit a full-sized bed if you don’t need a large drop on the sides.   This is a machine quilted “Quilt-As-You-Go” quilt made by Brenda Blakeman (Knoxville, Maryland).   She is a long-time friend and quilter and is amazing at her craft.   With this technique, we don’t see any top stitching, the seams lie in between the front and back of the quilts.   The material will continue to lie as if it has been quilted on the top, though!   It uses all cotton fabrics and I'm thinking polyester thread and 80/20 batting (80% cotton, 20% polyester.   In caring for this quilt, wash cold cycle, tumble dry with little to no heat.   This quilt has been pre-washed for that worn-in, cozy, and crinkly look.   The quilt is primarily made from green, red, and beige fabrics, many with floral prints.   The dark red binding (edge) of the quilt has been hand sewn onto the quilt (the best way to do it, in my opinion.)   My favorite park of the quilt is the wide floral border on what I would call the top of the quilt.   It helps pull all the coordinating colors together.   I will happily answer any additional questions you may have regarding the quilt if you’re considering its purchase.   Thank you for looking!

Exceptionnelle et rare Tenture murale en appliqué Khayamiya réalisée dans un atelier d’Alexandrie entre 1975 et 1978. Grandes dimensions: 2,60 x 5,20 m soit une surface de 13,50 m2. Poids: 20 kg  Les œillets de fixation sont renforcés par des talonnettes en cuir.   Cette forme d’art textile très ancien appelé « Khayamiya » ou «tentmaking » remonte à l'époque des caravanes itinérantes. Il consiste à appliquer des motifs de tissus de couleurs éblouissantes en les cousant sur de la toile de tente. Traditionnellement, ce travail est cousu sur la doublure de la toile de bâche qui est la base de la tenture et servait lors des cérémonies de mariage, de funérailles, de fêtes, mais aussi durant le Ramadan. Malheureusement, cet artisanat réalisé principalement par des hommes, a pratiquement disparu et est remplacé par des tissus aux motifs imprimés importés de Chine qui imitent les motifs du cousu main. Ces tissus ne valent rien et ils remplacent le travail minutieux des faiseurs de tentes qui appliquaient pièce de tissu après pièce de tissu pour donner un résultat final d'une beauté incomparable. La tenture que je mets en vente est la dernière à avoir été réalisée par une équipe d’hommes du métier dans un atelier d’Alexandrie qui cessait ses activités en 1978. Elle représente de nombreuses heures de travail et un magnifique décor géométrique. C'est une pièce de musée ! Accrochez-la sur un mur et la décoration de cette pièce est terminée, la tenture se suffit à elle-même, c'est une pure merveille ! En l'acquérant, vous vous appropriez une véritable œuvre d'art.
