The stylus isbrand new and boxed.  The LinnSondek LP12 (often shortened to Sondek or LP12) is atranscription turntable produced by Glasgow based Linn Products Hi-Fi Choice reviewers voted the LP12 "the most important hi-ficomponent ever sold in the UK"and The Absolute Soundranked it the second most significant turntable of all time in 2011 Thefirst Linn-badged arm, the Ittok LVII, was in production 1979–93. A3-point-mounted arm with a large-bore arm tube designed and manufactured in Japan. Astandard fitment for the LP12 Sondek throughout the eighties was Linn’s ownpickup arm, the Ittok LVII The burly Ittok used high-quality bearings, has auseful amount of adjustment of the key parameters of arm geometry, and is agood supporter of heavier moving-coil cartridges, making a fine starting pointfor revision. But it does have some coloration of its own, in part contributedby peaky arm resonances set off by energy from the cartridge. The LP12 is popular with many audiophiles around the world for its excellentability to play music with "pace, rhythm and timing. It is sometimes usedby hi-fi reviewers as a reference turntable. It'simpossible to imagine the high-end industry without the LP12". The LinnSondek was at its most popular in the golden age of vinyl playback, principallythe 1970s through to the 1980s. You're also assured of getting the most out of all regular tapes, thanks to the 820's six-way bias/equalization selector, which accommodates two ferric types, two chrome types plus ferrichrome, in addition to metal. The 820's record level meters are actually bright LED arrays. Since they have no inertia, they can react instantaneously. They're bright enough to read from across the room. And because they are equalized, you get a true reading of the actual record signal which includes the high-frequency boost going onto the tape. Another way the 820 helps avoid distorted recordings is with the switchable overload limiter. You'd probably want to switch it in whenever recording music of unknown dynamic range. Unlike ordinary limiters, Dual's doesn't compress dynamic range, but goes into action only when there's a sudden overload. Its action is also coordinated with the record-level settings - the higher they are, the more the amount of limiting that takes place. Important as such features are, the drive system is even more fundamental to cassette deck performance. The Dual drive system begins with a high-torque DC servo-motor with precision-ground flat belts and dynamically-balanced flywheel. An integral frequency generator provides instantaneous corrections of any deviation from accurate speed. Perfect tape-to-head alignment is assured by the four-point guidance system. And the electronic tape motion sensor constantly monitors the tape tension so that any deviation instantaneously stops the transport. For extra convenience in tape movement, the 820's memory stop functions in both directions. And, of course, all the basics are included: headphone output, microphone inputs and Dolby noise reduction system. I got them home and hooked them up to a rather grunty NAD 753 HT amp, yamaha CD player, nothing too silly and the sound literally made my mouth fall open, then I went on to start swearing and punching the air with delight. They have detail that is so moorish to listen to, kind of juicy and the bottom end it rich and super deep, I will never sell these speakers, after years of searching I am finally spending less time on and more time listening to music. I should add that these are all-rounders, they do wonders for older low-fi recordings as well, so not just for the jazz or classical heads, these speakers make everything sound rich, lush and detailed. You're also assured of getting the most out of all regular tapes, thanks to the 820's six-way bias/equalization selector, which accommodates two ferric types, two chrome types plus ferrichrome, in addition to metal. The 820's record level meters are actually bright LED arrays. Since they have no inertia, they can react instantaneously. They're bright enough to read from across the room. And because they are equalized, you get a true reading of the actual record signal which includes the high-frequency boost going onto the tape. Another way the 820 helps avoid distorted recordings is with the switchable overload limiter. You'd probably want to switch it in whenever recording music of unknown dynamic range. Unlike ordinary limiters, Dual's doesn't compress dynamic range, but goes into action only when there's a sudden overload. Its action is also coordinated with the record-level settings - the higher they are, the more the amount of limiting that takes place. Important as such features are, the drive system is even more fundamental to cassette deck performance. The Dual drive system begins with a high-torque DC servo-motor with precision-ground flat belts and dynamically-balanced flywheel. An integral frequency generator provides instantaneous corrections of any deviation from accurate speed. Perfect tape-to-head alignment is assured by the four-point guidance system. And the electronic tape motion sensor constantly monitors the tape tension so that any deviation instantaneously stops the transport. For extra convenience in tape movement, the 820's memory stop functions in both directions. And, of course, all the basics are included: headphone output, microphone inputs and Dolby noise reduction system.
