Sonic Tonic: A Journey Of 10+ years Becomes A Product Born of Experience, Friendships b'&' Love Of MusicBeing in business for nearly 15 years, you get to meet, and share experience/knowledge with some really great people. Some well known, some relatively unknown. This post is about the birth of a product, I call it Sonic Tonic, as a culmination of over 10 years working with Mr. Jack Bybee, and a fellow group of like minded music lovers whom I will call my b'"'Tweak Gurusb'"'. A Bit of Mad Science TooI owe a great deal to these people. Together through our love of music and what we think it should sound like when reproduced, we continue to push the boundaries of what is possible with audio through very unconventional means. We are mad scientists, given completely over to the dark side. The experiences we share are available to you, if you decide to trust our experiences, our anecdotal evidence, and our ears. It's a lot to ask. I know. Hell I'm about as scientific minded as they get when it comes to anything else except audio. That's because my ears and the ears of my colleagues/friends have heard things. Things we can't measure (with conventional tools/methods), things we can't really put into adequate words, but can only hint at with rambling cliches. It's wholly inadequate, but I've found a way to get beyond words, hype, bullshit and the like. I let you put my experiences to the test, try them in your own system on your own time, and see if they are for your ears. It's simple, costs little to do, and cuts through the crap. Everything Makes A DifferenceI have been experimenting with crystals, metals, and other materials in respect to the effect they have on signal transmission and room acoustics. Let me just say that everything, EVERYTHING in your listening room has some effect on the sound of your audio system, and in more ways than you think. Even the air in the room, it all affects performance, and can be altered. You've seen my experimentation with Copper rods (still ongoing, with more blogging to come...) alongside conventional acoustic treatments within a listening space. This is a fantastic, and inexpensive tweak. The copper brings openness, naturalness and enhances dynamics. Even a well acoustically treated room. That was my first unconventional means of attacking a common problem. inexpensive to try, and I make no money from it. It is simply me sharing something that brings more excitement to the listening experience. A 1/2b'"' copper rod suspended from my ceiling. Playing The FieldThen there are the crystal based products. Not necessarily cheap, but that is about to change... For the crystal based products there are of course Jack B's latest inventions: Room Neutralizers, Quantum Signal Enhancers. Let's not forget the Stein Harmonizer system, Synergistic Research HFT, UEF, Audio Magic P.E.A. and PulseGen technology. All of these use crystals, resonance and either are energized by or produce a b'"'fieldb'"' that enhances certain aspects of music reproduction. All do something to the sound, or to the listener perhaps, that enhances or at the very least changes the sonics of a system and/or room. These have all been an inspiration of sorts, and I have listened to them all. I have much respect for these manufacturers. It takes hundreds, even thousands of hours and tens of thousands of dollars to develop a product such as this. That's before one dime is made. Think about that the next time you read or hear someone bashing a manufacturer for egregious pricing in light of parts count and cost. It's the original idea, the research, the time, and money invested beforehand with no guarantee of return. This needs to be calculated into the MSRP in addition to the material cost of production. Then one has to project how many will be sold (good luck with that in the audio industry) and hopefully come up with a number that will produce a reasonable profit. But I digress.... Rolling My OwnMy own experimentation began by placing large crystals of En savoir plus Collaboration commerciale.

OK, this is something special. It came in with a Minolta AF-S (also for sale separately). It appears to be a custom, one-of-a-kind leather case designed specifically for that camera. It appears to be made of something like ostrich leather, crazy as that sounds. The stitching is precise, and the inside has a soft lining. There is a cutout along the top rear edge that provides access to the AF-S's viewfinder and flash release. I am almost positive this is not a commercial product: there is no branding, and there is no tripod screw attachment in the bottom of the case, yet it precisely holds an AF-S (as seen in the pictures). AMPTASTIC / ampli intégré audiophile en classe D  La référence à moins de 120 €  Parfait état, livré avec alimentation 12 V d'origine BANC D'ESSAI ANGLAIS: A few years ago this forum was ablaze with Mini-T amp hyperbole. Probably just another passing fad I assumed yet it is clear that there are many who love these diminutive boxes.  So as a brief background I recently had a pair of Combak Bravo standmount speakers and was searching for an amplifier to pair with them. A £6k speaker surely deserves an amplifier with a similar price tag? Well in my initial search I decided, just for fun to try a £60 Muse Mini-T with the Combak’s. The results were surprisingly impressive yet my head kept saying  ‘This makes no sense’. I’m not saying that this was the ultimate combo but the Muse was doing an amazing job considering especially with its reproduction of vocals. It was around that time that I started reading about the new Amptastic Mini-1 so I contacted the company to see if I could have one for review. Chris at Amptastic was happy to oblige but due to the initial demand by the time my review sample arrived I had moved the Bravos on. Anyway other speakers are available as they say. So the Mini-1 is rated up to 20W per channel and based on the familiar TA2020 chipset. On the front we have a push button on/off switch which has a tiny blue LED alongside to indicate power  plus a volume knob. I particularly like how clean and attractive the front panel with no unsightly logo on display. The rear consists of a single pair if RCA analogue inputs and some nice quality speaker connectors along with a power input for use with the supplied 12V power supply. For most of my listening I used the variable outputs of a QUAD 99CDP. This gave me full control of the volume via its remote and also access to streaming via the Quad’s digital inputs. To give me some sort of reference I initially listened to the Muse amp with the Quad through my 87db Gershman Avant Gardes. To be honest I didn’t think either amp would be able to drive the Gershmans to any sort of decent level. I was wrong. The Muse did a fair job but KD Lang’s  ‘If I Were You’ from the ‘All You Can Eat’ album sounded a bit messy. The bass was ill defined and lightweight. A few tracks more showed more of the same.  So switching to the Mini-1 and straight away the bass was far better defined and more in balance with the rest of the track. The music had an altogether more cohesive feel. In fact what struck me throughout all my listening is just how balanced it was. The highs and mids are refined enough to give the impression that you are listening to something with a higher price ticket and the bass was surprisingly good for an amplifier of this type. I also tried the Mini-1 with my 90db sensitivity Heco Celan 300 stand mount speakers. Again the results were impressive with the Mini-1 providing more than enough power to run at decent volume levels. As well as running the Mini-1 as a simple integrated it can be configured for use as a power amplifier. This is done by removing the front volume knob and rear bolts in order to slide the main board out of its case and change a couple of jumper settings. While you have the board out you can also disable the front panel blue LED if you wish. Clear instructions are included in the user ‘manual’ or should I say ‘sheet’ and although I did not attempt this it looks a simple enough operation. The Mini-1 (or any amplifier of this type) will not be for everyone, the single input alone will count many out also possibly the lack of remote control but looking at the Mini-1 purely on its sonic virtues and price tag this might be one of the best ways to invest your £99 out there. This is a beautiful looking Rolleicord Va with a couple of minor problems. The bad news: - There's something visible in the taking lens with a flashlight test, probably a bit of old fungus. Likely not enough to impact real world performance, but I have to disclose it. - Shutter sticks below 1/30th sec.  The good news: - Lenses otherwise look very nice, no marks or scratches. - Shutter works fine at speeds faster than 1/15th sec. - Film transport works, feels good. - Film counter works and resets. - Aperture control works, lever feels good. - Shutter speed selector feels good.  - Ground glass is fairly clean. - Magnifying loupe works. - Back fits nicely. - Viewing hood opens and collapses neatly.
