Beginning in 1977, the early years of Manilla Road were spent playing mostly progressive rock and space rock but eventually became noticeably heavier with time, the band's later heavy metal sound becoming more and more apparent with the release of Metal in 1982. Open The Gates is the 4th album released by Manilla Road in 1984. In my opinion, it's their best album on which all tracks are amazing!! This double vynil has 2 tracks on a 30cm, 45rpm disc. It's the very first edition of the album, out on Black Dragon Records. Very nice ambient electronic music can be found here, and the LP features the Fairlight CMI synthesizer. And that machine sounds amazing on this LP! The choir and vocal effects especially just sound lovely, but all the instrumentation just sounds so good. Some of the compositions remind me of Super Nintendo role-playing game music; very emotional, atmospheric, transcendent. Really nice. But for its simple cover art, being a LP in place to individiual maxi singles, and have so many hits of soundtracks about science fiction around those years, was underestimated. A gem that deserve to be discovered, downloaded and divided track by track to play in many parties!
