He was of Romanian Jewish descent.[1] Elliott graduated from the Hartt School of Music and worked as a jazz pianist in New York and Paris in the 1950s.[2][3] He continued his post-graduate studies in composition with Arnold Franchetti, Isadore Freed, Bohuslav Martinů, and Lukas Foss, but it was Judy Garland who brought Elliott to California to become an arranger for her television show. Elliott continued his run in television as music director for Andy Williams' long-running series and later produced and conducted the NBC television special Live From Studio 8H: 100 Years of America's Popular Music. He also wrote themes for television shows Night Court, and co-wrote the themes to Barney Miller and Charlie's Angels with Allyn Ferguson. He is listed in New Grove's Dictionary of American Music and was awarded an honorary doctorate from his alma mater, the University of Hartford's Hartt School of Music. Elliott was co-founder and music director of the American Jazz Philharmonic (formerly the New American Orchestra)[4] and creator of the Henry Mancini Institute.[5] The original name of the Orchestra was b'"'The Big Ob'"' and was the largest jazz orchestra of its kind featuring over 92 musicians. Elliott blended the classical European style orchestra with modern American jazz style. His professional repertoire was diverse, highlighted by stints as music director for the Academy Awards, Emmy Awards, Kennedy Center Honors and the 1984 Summer Olympics. In addition, he holds the distinction of serving as music director of the Grammy Awards for 30 consecutive years. He had an accomplished career in film, scoring numerous hit movies, including Sibling Rivalry, The Jerk, Oh God!, and Where's Poppa?. He also produced the Blade Runner soundtrack album with the New American Orchestra, and composed the song b'"'It's So Nice to Have a Man Around the Houseb'"' in 1950, made famous by Dinah Shore. Davis would have been a perfect fit at Stax or Atlantic in the mid- to late '60s, but his recording career didn't get rolling until the early '70s, when his brand of gruff but passionate blues-based R&B was losing ground in favor of funkier sounds. And while producer Allen Orange consistently drew fine performances from Davis in the studio and gave him powerful and sympathetic backing, Orange's record labels (House of Orange and Seventy-Seven Records) didn't have much muscle in the marketplace. Davis recorded for other labels over the course of his career, including Ace and Luna, but they didn't fare much better with him than Orange's imprints, and Davis was little more than a cult figure when he died in 1984 at the age of 38. The Lost Soul Man collects 25 tracks Davis recorded during his tenure with Orange, and while the presence of repeated alternate takes and unreleased tracks that didn't get the studio polish they need dull the impact of this set just a bit, it's still a potent testament to his talents. At his best, Davis' singing suggests the cool passion of Bobby "Blue" Bland blended with the gritty fire of Wilson Pickett, and he's good enough to merit both comparisons; the slow slink of "I'm Gonna Change," the lover's regret of "I've Got to Pay the Price," the potent groove of "Ain't Worrying About Jody," and the primal shouter "Hot Buttered Love" are all stellar performances and leave no doubt this man could and should have had some hits under more favorable circumstances. While Charly's Sad Shades of Blue offers a broader portrait of Geater Davis' career, The Lost Soul Man does restore some of the man's best moments in the studio to circulation, and fans of great Southern soul will want to give this a thorough listen. ~ Mark Deming

These songs, most of whom where written during the Beatles' two-month-stay on a meditation-course in Rishikesh, India, February - April 1968, were subsequently recorded for the 'White Album'. But not all of them made it onto vinyl and thus remain unreleased (at least as Beatles-versions). Judging by the outcome of this session, it must have been a very sunny and relaxing day. Spring certainly was in the air (and a bit of pot maybe too). Just accompanied by their acoustic guitars, John, Paul and George recorded very charming and joyful early versions of their newest tunes. Something slightly out-of-sync with their own double-tracking but who cares? Spontanity counts! Had this session been recorded 25 years later it would have been a bonafide TV-Unplugged-performance! But as it is, this 1968 session remained in the vaults until now !! We proudly present this tape to you in the correct running-order and in the best possible sound (two generations away from the actual master-tape). Enjoy! Missiles and original gun are not seen on the pictures but they will come with the toy. The toy is not made for children, to be played with. It's a masterpiece with custom paint application, so it's very fragile.  As the shoulders have some stress marks, I did not transform the toy until I have it. This custom work was made by Xaviercal. Cary a obtenu unbaccalauréat en musique de l'Université Wesleyan en 1938 et a commencé àtravailler dans le Connecticut et à New York. Il a décroché un travail solo àtemps plein chez Nick's à Greenwich Village à New York en 1941(jusqu'en 1943) et a joué avec Joe Marsala en 1942. En 1943, il aégalement travaillé comme arrangeur pour Benny Goodman et a joué avec le Casa Loma Orchestra et Brad Gowans . Lors d'un passage dansl' armée en 1944-46 stationné à LongIsland, il a réussi à continuer à enregistrer avec Muggsy Spanier et Wild BillDavison entre autres. Après sa libération, il a travailléavec Billy Butterfield, puis était pianiste dans laformation initiale des All-Stars de Louis Armstrong en 1947-1948. En1949-1950, il fait partie de l' orchestre de Jimmy Dorsey et, dans les années 1950,travaille avec Eddie Condon , Pee Wee Russell , Max Kaminsky , Bud Freeman , Jimmy McPartland , et commence en 1957 unecollaboration à long terme avec Bobby Hackett au Henry Hôtel Hudson à NewYork. Lorsque cet engagement apris fin en 1959, il a déménagé à Los Angeles, où il est devenu un musicien indépendant, en tournée eten studio . Il a également commencé à écrireet à organiser de la musique pour les Tuesday Night Friends, qui seréunissaient chez lui tous les mardis pendant des décennies, une tradition quis'est poursuivie après son décès.
